JACKSON — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers couldn’t keep “Mo” on their side.

Ironton played well early but saw the momentum shift in the other direction as the Lady Fighting Tigers fell to the Jackson Ironladies 23-25, 12-25 and 18-25 in a non-league volleyball game on Monday.

“The momentum was definitely on our side in the first game, but a few mistakes and the second game momentum shifted towards Jackson,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.

“They went up 7-1, there were a few things that went against us and the girls couldn’t bounce back.”

The third game went back-and-forth until Jackson server Celeste Stiltner had several straight service points to clinch the game.

“The girls played OK in the first match, but from that moment on we missed a lot of serves and caught ourselves playing a lot of defense,” said Campbell. “You can’t play a lot of defense in volleyball and expect to win the game.”

Jordan Hannan, Zakia Lee and Lexi Wise scored 4 points each for Ironton. Lee had 7 blocks while D’Laynie Keith and Wise had 6 kills apiece.

Brittany Smith scored 10 points and Maddie Munn 8 to lead the Ironladies.

“Jackson is always a competitive team for us to play. Being a Division II school, it’s great competition,” said Campbell.

Ironton hosts Portsmouth at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against the defending and unbeaten Ohio Valley Conference champions.

The Lady Tigers visit Russell at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
