It’s my ball and we’ll play by my rules or I’m taking my ball and going home.

The Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans got their way when it came to whose style of play was used on Wednesday as they got past the St. Joseph Flyers 46-36.

The Titans used their strength and strong rebounding to snap a first half tie and pull away to the win.

“We didn’t get any second chance opportunities. They do a good job making you beat them at their game,” said Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan.

St. Joseph (4-12) was led by Tyler Ward with a game-high 17 points. Zac McGraw scored 12 points.

Notre Dame (14-4) was led by Trevon Turner with 15 points and Isaiah Johnson with 12.

Ward scored six points as St. Joseph took a 10-5 first quarter lead, but Turner hit a pair of triples in the second quarter and Johnson scored four points as the Titans rallied to tie 16-all the game at the half.

The Titans came out the second half and put together an 8-0 run. Turner scored eight points including a 3-pointer as Notre Dame took a 33-24 lead.

Judge Williams and Ward each hit trifectas for the Flyers in the quarter.

“We just couldn’t combine enough stops with baskets on the other end to cut into the lead,” said Sheridan.

“Their athleticism gave us trouble all evening. Every possession was a grind and they just wore us down.”

Turner and Johnson scored four points each in the fourth quarter and the Titans were 7-of-10 at the foul line to prevent a Flyers’ comeback.

McGraw scored six points and Ward four in the quarter.

St. Joseph visits Portsmouth Clay on Saturday.
