Highest honor in Awana Club

Laura Grace Hamm, a sixth grader at Dawson-Bryant and member of Symmes Creek Missionary Baptist Church, received the Timothy Award through the church’s Awana Club on Sunday.

The award honors young Christians who display faith in action, and is the highest honor presented to a member of the Awana Club. It reflects the words of the Apostle Paul, who encourages his young apprentice, Timothy, to proudly share his faith through word and action while also studying to show himself approved unto God.

Hamm has been a member of the Symmes Creek Missionary Baptist Church’s Awana Club since she was three years old, and her dedication to learning God’s words and memorizing scripture has allowed her to complete every Awana book in the Cubbies, Sparks and Truth and Training classes. In addition, she has served as a nursery worker and Sunday School helper at Symmes Creek and has had nearly perfect attendance in the Awana program.

Outside of the church, Hamm actively serves as a member of the Christian Youth Association at Dawson-Bryant Middle School, was elected as one of the sixth grade class representatives, and is part of the school’s Enrichment Program, earning straight A’s since kindergarten.

She is also a member of the Coal Grove Christian Worship Dance Team, a group of middle  school girls who visit local nursing homes and churches to share their love for Christ through song and dance, and a member of the Farm Hands 4-H Club, where she serves as the treasurer of the group. She also plays league and all-star softball, basketball and cross-country, where she earned an elementary state title in the two-mile.

Awana is a global, nonprofit ministry with fully integrated evangelism and long-term discipleship programs for ages 2-18 that actively involves parents and church leaders. More than 3.7 million children and youth, 470,000 volunteers and 260 field staff take part in Awana each week in over 47,000 churches around the world.

Laura is the daughter of Scott and Katie Hamm, the sister of Seth Hamm, and the granddaughter of Steve and Jane Garrett and Ron and Jo Hamm.
