Eleanor Peterson

Eleanor Elizabeth Chatfield Peterson, 84, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. The Hanging Rock native was born Dec. 7, 1933, a daughter of the late Arthur M. and Maye K. Cook Chatfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Willard W. “Bill” Peterson, who passed away July 20, 2018.
Mr. Peterson attended Pedro schools and was a former employee for Kresge for more than 13 years. She attended Lawrence Furnace Church, where she was a member of the Lawrence Furnace Auxiliary and the Lawrence Furnace Homemakers. She was also a member of the River Valley Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan E. Gray; a grandson, Lucas James Steed; five brothers, Joseph F. Chatfield, William N. Chatfield, Charles E. Chatfield, Arthur J. Chatfield and Ralph D. Chatfield; and two sisters, Gertrude L. Arthur and Mary E. Delawder.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy K. (Ron) Steed, of Ironton; a granddaughter, Callie Gray, of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews, who she loved like her own.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Ryan Massie officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
