Don’t expect Doug Graham to send his team to a center for aggression management any time soon.
The Ironton coach is more than happy with his team’s aggressive play and that was evident again as the Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 59-34 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
“Lydia (Hannan) came out aggressive offensively and defensively which set the tone for our team,” said Graham.
“Riley (Schreck) played well. She has played better each game this year. Elli (Williams) plays great defense and makes good decisions on offense. Haylee (Stevens) is playing really well on both sides of the ball.”
Hannan’s aggression led to 10 rebounds to go with nine points. Stevens continues to abuse the basket as she scored a game-high 24 points to help Ironton improve to 3-1 overall and in the OVC.
Jada Rogers added eight points and Schreck seven in a balanced Ironton offense.
Makayla Scott scored 11 points, Kenzie Hanshaw 10 points and Rileigh Morris eight to pace the Redwomen (0-4, 0-3).
Rock Hill led 8-4 after the first quarter only to have Ironton catch fire in the second quarter and surge to a 25-15 lead at the break.
The lead inched to 38-27 after three quarters before Ironton began to pull away in the fourth quarter by outscoring Rock Hill 21-7.
Ironton starting center Samantha LaFon did not play due to an injury.
On Thursday, Ironton hosts Chesapeake and Rock Hill visits Coal Grove.
