Three is greater than two, but not when there are more of the twos than the threes.
The Ironton Lady Tigers hit 11 3-point goals to just two for Raceland, but the Lady Rams had 15 two-pointers and Ironton just four as Raceland held on for a 43-41 win Wednesday.
Raceland (9-9) also went 7-of-10 at the foul line while Ironton missed its only two attempts.
“We were not ready to play. Raceland came out and played hard and aggressive. We didn’t match Raceland’s effort until the fourth quarter,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.
Haylee Stevens knocked down seven 3-point goals to lead Ironton (67-9) with 21 points. Riley Schreck scored 13 points as she connected on three shots behind the arc.
Holly Bryant scored 14 points to lead Raceland (9-9).
Bryant scored six points in the first quarter as Raceland took a scant 12-11 lead.
Stevens drilled a pair of 3-pointers, Jada Rogers added another triple and Samantha LaFon had a basket to keep Ironton close.
Schreck scored eight of Ironton’s 10 points in the second quarter including a pair of 3-pointers as the Lady Fighting Tigers tied the game at intermission 21-all.
Turnovers plagued Ironton in the third quarter and the Lady Fighting Tigers only managed three points — a trifecta by Schreck.
Whitney Lute hit a 3-pointer and scored five points while Bryant had four points to give the Lady Rams a 32-24 lead.
Schreck had a basket in the fourth quarter but it was Stevens who caught fire and nearly carried Ironton to a win.
Stevens drained five 3-point goals in the quarter but the Lady Tigers fell just short as Emilee Garvin converted 3-of-4 from the line and Lute added four points for the Lady Rams.
Ironton visits Rock Hill on Thursday.
