MAYSVILLE, Ky. — Batman and Robin, you’ve got some competition.
The St. Joseph Flyers had their own formidable duo as Zach Roach and Ryan Payne combined for 48 points in an 87-60 win over the St. Patrick Saints on Saturday.
Roach scored 27 points and Payne had 21 as the pair combined for nine 3-point goals to pace the Flyers (7-0).
J.C. Damron also had a big game with 18 points and Jimmy Mahlmeister just missed double digits with 9.
“It was a great shooting performance by Zach and Ryan,” said Flyers’ coach Chris Barnes. “J.C. had a double-double and Jared Johnson did a good job again. He got about 10 boards and quite a few on the offensive end to keep possession. I’m so proud of my team.”
Jaylan Rigdon scored 22 points and Chase Walton had 15 to lead St. Patrick (2-5).
Damron scored 9 points, Mahlmeister had a trifecta and score 7 points while Payne hit a triple and Roach added 5 points and the Flyers jumped in front 24-14 in the first quarter.
Walton had 8 points for the Saints.
Roach sizzled in the second quarter with four 3-pointers and Payne added a trey and 5 points as the lead went to 44-26 at the break.
Rigdon had 8 of the Saints’ 12 points.
Payne lit up the scoreboard with three 3-pointers while Roach and Damron combined for 9 points and the Flyers extended the lead to 62-40.
St. Joseph was 10-of-14 at the line in the fourth quarter with Matt Sheridan and Darmon each gong 2-for-2 and Roach 4-of-6.
The Flyers host their holiday tournament on Friday and Saturday.
