Harold Ratliff

Harold Eugene “Bebob” Ratliff, Sr., 86, of Flatwoods, Ky., passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born March 3, 1926, the son of the late Frank Amos and Louise Pasley Ratliff. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Rose Hall Ratliff, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948.

Mr. Ratliff was a graduate of Russell High School and a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran. He was a former pipefitter/sheet metal worker for Allied Chemical in South Point and the C&O Railroad in Russell, Ky. He was a member of the Faith United Church of the Nazarene in Ironton. He was a Nazarene Work and Witness Coordinator, former president for the Ironton Band Boosters, former Boy Scouts of America Troop Leader, and served in various positions in the Nazarene Church, which include assistant pastor, music director, Sunday School superintendent, board member, Faith Promise speaker, and treasurer. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Church of the Nazarene. He also enjoyed fishing, coin collecting and photography.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Ratliff Lamlin, Helen Ratliff Sparks, and Marie Ann Ratliff Sparks; and three brothers, Frank Ratliff Jr., Walter Ratliff, and Richard (Dick) Ratliff.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Harold “Bebob” E. Ratliff Jr. and Patty of Swanton; daughter and son-in-law, Veronica Ann (Ronne) Nunley and Charles of Flatwoods, Ky.; son and daughter-in-law, Frank E. Ratliff and Edie of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Eileen Jarusiewic of Kettering and Juanita Kirchner of Dayton; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Harold E. Ratliff, Jr. and Rev. Dirk Johnson officiating. A private burial will be in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m. at the church. Ralph Haas

Ralph J. Haas, 83, of Ironton, died at home on Monday June 25, 2012.He was born in Ironton, the son of the late William and Dora (Boll) Haas. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He retired from Ironton Dayton Malleable, and Ohio Department of Transportation as a project inspector. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and one brother Robert (Bob) Haas. Survivors include one daughter and son in-law, Mary Anne and Frank Laber of Ironton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim Haas of Columbus, Joe and Cindy Haas of Mansfield and John and Eileen of St. Cloud, Minn.; one brother Donald Haas of Ironton; grandchildren include Julie Haas, Michael (Renee) Haas, Kristin (Paul) Diaz ,Katie (Nick Watts) Haas, Annie Haas, Elizabeth (Andy) Lintner, Joe Laber and Kathryn (Dick) Weaver and great grandchildren Lauren and Andrew Haas, Noah and Alex Diaz, Cate Lintner, Joey and Johnny Weaver. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m.Thursday at St. Joseph Church with Father Mark Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Cora Moore

Cora Moore, 96, of Huntington, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Edith Willis

Edith Naomi Willis, 87, of Ironton, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Forestdale native was born Dec. 19, 1924, the daughter of the late John A. and Angie Losey Mayfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Willis, who passed away Nov. 11, 1992.

Mrs. Willis was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a former employee for the Clayton and Lambert Manufacturing during WWII, a company that made steel cartridges for the Navy Bureau of Ordinance and was located in Ashland, Ky. She was also a former teacher for the Dawson Bryant School District for 41 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the National Education Association and Dawson Bryant Education Association. She was a member of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Deering and also active in Zoar Baptist Church of Coal Grove. She was active in church work at Ice Creek and Zoar Baptist Church. She was an accomplished pianist and served as pianist for many churches where her father was pastor and enjoyed planning and organizing social functions and events.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Mayfield and Ruth Mayfield; brother and sister (twins), who died in infancy. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Scherry Willis of Newton, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Kevin and Joni Willis of Ironton; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Cheryl Willis of Ironton; sister, Freda Stafford of Coal Grove; brother and sister-in-law, John W. and Lynn Mayfield of Huntington, W.Va.; grandchildren, Stephanie and Jimmy Bailey of Wheelersburg, Megan Willis of Macomb, Ill., Hannah and Andrew Knipp of Ironton, John Kevin Willis of Ironton, and L.Cpl. Jamie Willis of Quantico, Va.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zoar Baptist Church in Coal Grove with Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the services at the church. Pallbearers will be John Smith, Jamie Lafon, Paul Dennin, Chris Lafon, Andrew Hicks and Brandon Lafon.
