The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers and Portsmouth Lady Trojans put together a hit parade on Tuesday as the two teams combined for 24 hits.

Ironton outhit Portsmouth 14-10 but the Lady Trojans scored three runs in the seventh to escape with an 8-7 win.

“I’m excited that we hit the ball so well tonight. We just need to be more consistent game in and game out,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“Portsmouth played a good game and also hit the ball well. We will continue to work to improve on every aspect of the game. We are just getting started.”

Saige Fields led Ironton’s onslaught by going 4-4 at the plate. Andi Kratzenberg and Taylor Hannan were 2-4 with Meghan Taylor and Laken White hitting doubles.

Portsmouth (4-3) got runs in the first and second innings, but Ironton rallied to take the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second on RBI hits by Taylor Monk, Ariel Whitt and Hannan.

Portsmouth got two runs in the third to tied the game, but Ironton (1-3) scored twice in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.

Hannan and Fields singled to put runners on the corners. Rebekkah Potter hit a long sacrifice fly for a run and Kratzenberg singled to score courtesy runner Jordan Leach.

A home run by Guthrie cut the deficit to 6-5 in the top of the fifth. She then hit a three-run homer in the seventh to put Portsmouth up 8-6.

Ironton rallied in the bottom of the inning only to come up a run short.

White started the frame with a double off the fence and she scored on a fielder’s choice by Whitt. But the next two batters grounded out to end the game.

Ironton hosts Fairland on Thursday.
