PROCTORVILLE — It was all about pitching and it all came down to breaks.

The South Point Pointers’ Brandon Boggs outdueled the Fairland Dragons’ Collin Damron 1-0 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game that was decided on a wild pitch.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning.

With one out, Alex Whitt hit a soft liner into the gap that dropped in front of a diving outfielder and went for a double. Whitt came around to score the game’s only run on a passed ball and a wild pitch.

Boggs struck out 11,walked one and gave up four hits to get the win. Damron allowed just two hits, struck out eight and walked three in taking the loss.

“Our pitching has surprised me. It’s been our strong suit. Damron threw a really nice game,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward.

“Boggs pitched well. We got people on and had chances, but we didn’t put the ball in play. We struck out too much.”

Fairland (1-1, 0-1) had its only real threat in the second inning when Damron reached on an error and stole second but was left stranded.

Bandon Layne and Whitt had the only South Point hits.

Adkins was 2-3 and Tyler Campbell and Dylan Murphy 1-3 for the Dragons.

Fairland hosts Coal Grove Wednesday. South Point hosts Tolsia Tuesday.
