Clark Griswold challenge offered to village residents

SOUTH POINT — The People for the Point are hosting a Clark Griswold Challenge for the Village of South Point to get ready for Christmas.

“The challenge will have four categories,” Chris Smith, member of People for the Point, said. “Best-decorated business, best religion-themed home, most original and the grand champion Clark Griswold Award for Christmas lights.”

Giovanni’s Pizza, JC Snapshot Photography, the Snak Shak and Jennifer Sipple from State Farm donated awards for the winners.

The People for the Point will judge the decorations on Dec. 21.

“We are just trying to get a Christmas atmosphere here in South Point,” Smith said. “The contest is open just for the people of the village.”

The People from the Point have only been around for a little over a year.

“We are a new community group that just recently got started,” Smith said. “We are trying to do fun, family-oriented events for the community. A lot of times people lose track of small town America, but we are trying to get back to that.”

The People for the Point are also having pictures with Santa at the South Point Community Park from noon-3 p.m. on Dec. 13, where children and their families can get their picture taken with Santa Claus by bringing a food item for their food drive. All donations will go to local food banks.

A Christmas tree donated by John Delapa from Cariovascular Imaging Services, Inc. will be in the gazebo in the park. Students from South Point Elementary School will make decorations for the tree.
