SOUTH POINT — The village of South Point has officially settled into its new building and officials celebrated with an open house for the public.

The village hall now occupies the former Quality Care Nursing Services building on Solida Road. It was previously located on Second Street West.

“It’s a really nice building,” South Point Village clerk Scott Thomas said. “It’s a lot more convenient for the residents being on Solida Road rather than down on Second.”

The building was purchased through a bond by the South Point Sewer District and is in turn renting it out to the village to house offices through the Lawrence County Neighborhood Investment Program started by Lawrence County Treasurer Stephen Dale Burcham.

Along with Thomas’ office, Mayor Ron West’s office, village administrator Patrick Leighty’s office and the utilities office are all in the building.

The village hall only takes up half of the building and it took workers a couple weeks to clean out the other side, which will be rented out. It has four exam rooms and two offices, so the village is looking at medical suitors, Thomas said.

“I feel like it was a real good investment for the village,” Thomas said. “It’s a much nicer building and it is a lot more inviting.”
