Robert Sudman

May 1, 1924— May 1, 2015

Robert (Bob) James Sudman was born on May 1, 1924, in Boyne Falls, Michigan, to Chester G. and Leota Viola Getty Sudman. He served his country during WWII as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was awarded two Bronze stars and a Purple Heart. Robert was a member of the Katy, Texas VFW, as well as the VFW in Ironton, where he was also a member of the Honor Guard and a Quarter Master. He retired from Cyclops Steel where he worked as the Director of IT.

Robert (Bob) Sudman passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015, in Katy, Texas, on his 91st birthday. He is survived by his children, Kay Brown and her husband Dale, Scott Sudman; and his wife Velma, and Diane Ward; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ann Malone Sudman.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio. Funeral services held under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home Katy, Texas.

 

Penny Campbell

March 3, 1968 — May 1, 2015

Penny Sue Campbell, 47, of Bidwell, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, at her residence. The Ironton native was born March 3, 1968, a daughter of the late Beach and Edith Elswick Campbell.

Penny attended Symmes Valley Schools, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Lee Campbell.

She is survived by a daughter, Edith (Kelsey) Johnson of Bidwell; a son, Zachary Hollbrook of Gallipolis; two sisters, Mary France of Waterloo and Barbara (Carl) Collins of Ironton; four brothers, Darrell Campbell of Scottown, Johnny (Dee Dee) Campbell of South Point, Edward Campbell of Waterloo and Beacher Michael (Brenda) Campbell of Greenup, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Zoey Thomas, Landen Johnson, and Isabella Johnson, all of Bidwell; a close family friend that she raised as a daughter, Philicia Thomas of Bidwell; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Kenneth Petty officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Judith Gibson

Judith B. Gibson, 76, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Robert Gibson. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Donna Fortner

Donna Lynn Fortner, 49, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with a visitation one hour before the service. Laverne Deering, 88, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, died Saturday, May 2, 2015, at home. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Catlettsburg Freewill Baptist Church. Larry Ross

Larry Joe Ross, 73, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Monday, May 4, 2015, at the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted 6 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with his family officiating and the VFW Post 6878, Proctorville, closing with military rites.
