Funds to go to health department

 

Additional funds will soon be heading to the Ironton Health Department for a new HVAC system and E.L. Robinson Engineering after some complications were discovered in the repairing of the city center’s parapet wall.

Prior to Thursday evening’s regular council meeting, there was a finance committee meeting with health department representatives present along with Michael Williams from E.L. Robinson. Williams explained that complications with certain columns of the parapet wall would require an additional $5,000. The health department will receive $11,000 for the new HVAC system.

With Ordinance 15-24, amending the annual operating budget for the city of Ironton for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2015 and declaring an emergency, on the agenda for the regular council meeting, it was favorably recommended by the finance committee with the additional changes. The $5,000 for E.L. Robinson will come out of the capital improvement fund, while the general fund will cover the health department’s $11,000.

At the regular council meeting, Craig Harvey made a motion to amend Ordinance 15-25 to reflect the two changes with Bob Cleary seconding the decision. All were in favor. Dave Frazer and Kevin Waldo were not at the meeting, and the first reading of the amended ordinance was then given.

Resolutions 15-25, 15-26 and 15-27 regarding increases to the pensions of the chiefs and police and fire unions were also all favorably recommended by the finance committee and then all passed unanimously by council.

The next city council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9 in the council chambers on the third floor of the city center with a finance committee at 4:45 and the Whitwell School rezone hearing at 5 p.m. prior.
