A youth all-star cheerleading squad at a new cheer gym in Ironton took the top prizes at a recent competition sponsored by Cheer Max.

On Nov. 7, the ENVY All-Stars youth squad claimed first place in their division of four other squads, as well as grand champion for the best squad overall in Hillsboro.

“I’m extremely proud of the girls. It was our first competition as a new gym, so it was not something we were expecting,” Summer Bush, one of the ENVY All-Star coaches, said. “It’s a complete dream come true. I’m very excited for them and I hope we can continue it.”

Bush started the gym with a few of her friends after not successfully finding another cheer gym.

“We had daughters that loved to cheer, but every place we took them, it was too expensive or they traveled too much,” Bush said. “So we decided to open our own gym.”

Bush said besides the youth ENVY All-Star squad, which is for those 11 years and younger, the gym also has a mini ENVY All-Star squad, for those 6-8.

The ENVY All-Stars practice on Sundays and are expected to compete in the next Cheer Max competition on Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Sharonville Convention Center in Cincinnati, Bush said.

The gym is located at 308 S. Third St. between the Ro-Na Theater and Unger’s.
