Gene Bond

May 28, 1935 — May 11, 2016

Gene Bond, 80 of Haverhill, passed away, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at his residence. He was born May 28, 1935, in Lawrence County, the son of the late Frank and Lena Rivers Burgraff Bond. Gene was also preceded in death by one son, James Derek Bond; three brothers, Charles, Ed and Carl Bond; and two sisters, Faye Harris and Gloria Bryant. He was formerly employed with Ashland Asphalt Paving, Tri Cities Paving and was a member of the Laborers Local 1445.

Gene is survived by his wife, Wanda Lee (Graff) Bond, whom he married on June 21, 1975, in Haverhill; three children, Charles Ryan (Makenna) Bond, of Victorville, California, Genie Maynard (Greg Lewis), of Haverhill and Errol Bond, of Ashland; grandchildren, Rylee Derek Maynard, Emmalee Paige Maynard, Jolee Addison Maynard, Mila Lynn Bond, Brian Allen Bond and Stacy Bond Adkins; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Haverhill United Methodist Church in Haverhill with pastor Bob Morrow officiating. Interment will follow at Haverhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday, all at the church. Raymond Hankins

July 3, 1927 — May 10, 2016

Raymond Hankins, 88, of Ironton, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. He was born July 3, 1927, the son of the late Chester and Edith Moberly Hankins. He retired from Ashland Oil, was a member of New Valley Missionary Baptist Church and a Navy veteran.

He was the husband of Geraldine Hackworth Hankins, who survives, and his children are Roger (Debra) Hankins, Ronald (Vicki) Hankins, Brenda (Robert) Carpenter, Calvin (Gina) Hankins, and Brian (Melissa) Hankins; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. John Hankins. Three grandchildren and one sister, Marcella Joseph, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Comer and the Rev. John Hankins. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens. Donations are requested to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

 

Charlotte McGlone

Nov. 17, 1957 — May 10, 2016

Charlotte L. McGlone, 58, of Waterloo, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Ironton native was born Nov. 17, 1957, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Anna Ross Sturgill. She is survived by her husband, Dewey McGlone, whom she married Jan. 7, 1975.

Charlotte was a graduate of Symmes Valley High School. She was a former nurse’s aide for Sunset Nursing Center in Coal Grove and was of the Apostolic faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Gant and Barbara Miller.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Parthena (Jonathan) Sexton, of Proctorville; a son, Dewey (Kendra) McGlone Jr., of Ironton; eight grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Katie, Hailie, Kaitlyn, Hayden, Sophie and Liam; nieces and nephews, Michael, Samantha and Amanda; and a host of other nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Macedonia Cemetery with her nephew, Rick Caplinger, officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
