Russell Cash Express delivered cakes to agencies

Representatives from Cash Express in Russell were in Ironton Monday delivering cakes to the first responders for the anniversary of Sept. 11.

“We do this for the first responders on Sept. 11 as a thank you for their service,” Josh Teachey, with Cash Express, said. “We started the year after 9/11, so this is our 15th year.”

Cakes were delivered to the Ironton Fire Department, the Ironton Police Department, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence County 911/EMA building.

In Kentucky, they were delivered to the Russell fire and police departments, the Flatwoods fire and police departments and the Raceland Fire Department.

“9/11 was a horrific tragedy for our country,” Ironton Police Chief Pam Wagner said. “We’re blessed that we still have people who remember first responders and the events that they had to deal with on that day,” she continued. “We thank them so much for their generosity on this day.”

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless also said that the gesture by Cash Express meant a lot to him and those in his office.

“To be appreciated by our citizens and local businesses makes us feel good about the job that we do,” Lawless said. “We want to provide the best services for our citizens, and when citizens and local businesses recognize that, we truly appreciate it.”

Cash Express purchased the cakes from Kroger in Russell.
