Rock Hill doubles up on Oak Hill

PEDRO — Rock Hill pulled double duty to beat Oak Hill.

Pitchers Ryan Hackworth and Jared Bruce doubled up on the mound while the defense turned three double plays as the Redmen beat the Oaks 13-2 on Tuesday.

Hackworth struck out five, walked three and gave up four hits in six innings to get the win. Bruce fanned two of the four batters he faced in the seventh.

“We hit the ball well and we turned three double plays that helped,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“Hackworth threw ball well. I was pleased with him. And Bruce pitched in the seventh and threw well for a freshman.”

Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead in the second inning keyed by Matt Jenkins run-scoring single.

The Redmen got three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a run-scoring suicide squeeze bunt by Josh Malone.

After Rock Hill got a run in the fifth to lead 6-0, C.J. Justice had a two-run double in the sixth as the lead went to 10-0.

Oak Hill got its two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Mitchell Davenport unloaded a two-run home run in the seventh inning as the Redmen scored three times.

Davenport went 3-4 with a double, a home run and a sacrifice fly as he drove in three runs.

Jenkins was 2-3 while Cody Massie and Herbie Butterbaugh each went 2-4 and Shane Russell 2-5 as Rock Hill banged out 15 hits.

The Redmen (8-5) host River Valley on Wednesday.
