OAK HILL — Lexie Barrier had a typical game with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 9 steals.

But her performance wasn’t the only reason for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 74-46 dominating win over the Oak Hill Lady Oaks on Monday.

Ironton had a strong team effort keyed by Sydney Webb with 21 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Cheyenne Scott added 10 points and Taylor Hannan drained three trifectas as nine different players scored.

“The thing that I liked was that Oak Hill came in with a game play to take Lexie Barrier away and we had other girls step up and look for their game,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.

“Everybody who came in contributed. You couldn’t focus on one girl.”

Oak Hill (5-5) was led by Abby Haislop with 11 points and McKaile Cade had 10.

Ironton started the game with a 5-0 run but the Lady Oaks took their only lead of the game at 8-7 on a layup by Cade with 4:30 left in the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers outscored Oak Hill 8-2 to close the quarter including a triple by Hannan that made it 15-10.

A short jumper by Barrier, a trey by Hannan, a layup by Barrier and a 3-pointer by Webb opened up a 32-18 lead. Webb’s putback put Ironton up 34-20 before a foul shot by Haislop made it 34-21 at the break.

Ironton had 11 of their 17 fouls in the first half. Graham said he addressed lack of fundamental play defensively at halftime.

“We talked about being more solid defensively in the second half,” said Graham. “After the Africentric game, we had a great week of practice.”

Ironton dominated the boards 20-8in the second half and outscored Oak Hill 19-7in the third quarter to extend the lead to 53-28.

Two foul shots by Webb and a trey by Barrier to being the fourth quarter gave Ironton it biggest lead at 58-28.

They matched it a 74-44 on a putback by D’Laynie Keith.

On Saturday, Ironton hosts Cabell Midland starting at 2 p.m. with the jayvee game followed by the varsity at 3 p.m.

Saturday will be Youth Recognition Day. Girls teams in grades 3-8 will be introduced.
